Choosing The Perfect Glove

There is a great deal of personal preference that is involved in picking out a baseball glove, especially for an experienced player. For the beginner, look for a relatively cheap leather glove that will break in easily, and can be used as a general purpose glove, or a utility glove. Don't buy a catcher's mitt or first baseman's glove -- both specialty gloves -- if you only play a few times a year. Keep this in mind if you are buying a glove for a child, who will outgrow the glove in probably less than a year. The Rawlings Junior Pro Lite Series glove is a good choice for a youngster less than 9 years of age. It is inexpensive, provides a conventional and comfortable fit, and is considered a top performer among youth baseball gloves. Mizuno gloves are an all-around good bet for experienced players, providing the best quality glove for a decent price. The Nokona Buffalo Series glove is an expensive, top-quality glove that is made of buffalo skin, which is tougher and lighter than leather. You may also want to consider if you want closed- or open-web gloves, a difference that does affect the way you catch a ball. Closed-web gloves are better for returning the ball, while open-web gloves are better for grabbing the ball.
