Health insurers end 2009 with profitable quarters

<div><p>The five largest publicly traded health insurers all head into 2010 with lingering concerns about enrollment and profit margin pressures. But they wrapped up 2009 with profitable quarters. Here are their results for the fourth quarter:</p><p>_ UnitedHealth Group Inc.: Profit of $944 million, or 81 cents per share, on revenue of $21.78 billion</p><p>_ WellPoint Inc.: Profit of $2.74 billion, or $5.95 per share, on revenue of $19.05 billion</p><p>_ Aetna Inc.: Profit of $165.9 million, or 38 cents per share, on revenue of $8.76 billion</p><p>_ Humana Inc.: Profit of $250.7 million, or $1.48 per share, on revenue of $7.63 billion</p><p>_ Cigna Corp.: Profit of $330 million, or $1.19 per share, on revenue of $4.64 billion</p><p>(WellPoint's earnings included a gain of $4.79 per share from the sale of its NextRx subsidiary to Express Scripts Inc.)</p><p>___</p><p>Source: Company filings</p><img src="http://admatch-syndication.mochila.com/images/ad.gif?aid=68534921&bid=informcom" /></div><div id="copyright"><div>
